Beekeeping Journal App — Hive Inspection Log on Your Phone
A beekeeping journal helps you remember the history of every colony: when the queen was replaced, what it was treated with, how many frames of brood it had in spring. A paper log gets lost and smeared with wax — on your phone it's always with you.
What to record during an inspection
- Queen — is she laying, her year and marking color, breed.
- Colony strength — how many seams the bees cover.
- Brood — number of frames, laying pattern, any drone brood or bullet brood.
- Stores — honey and bee bread reserves, whether feeding is needed.
- Frames — total count, how many drawn combs and foundation sheets were added.
- What was done — feeding, varroa treatment, adding space, honey harvest, making a split.
- Signs of swarming and disease — swarm cells, dead bees, dysentery.
Apiary journal in Beehive
A card for every hive
The hive card holds the colony's current state: the queen and her year, colony strength, frames, stores and brood. Below are the latest journal entries for that hive, so before an inspection you can see what happened last time.
Entries in one or two taps
Choose the action type — inspection, feeding, treatment, honey harvest, expansion, queen replacement — and add a note. Entries can be kept for the whole operation, for an apiary or for a single hive, and filtered by action.
Voice input and photos
Gloves on and covered in wax? Tap “Dictate inspection” on the hive card — your speech turns into the text of a note. You can attach photos of frames from the camera or the gallery.
Tasks and reminders
Schedule work for the right date: feeding, treatment, checking queen cells. Today's and overdue tasks are shown on the home screen, and the calendar shows all entries and tasks by day. A completed task becomes a journal entry.
QR code on the hive
Print a QR code and stick it on the hive body. At the apiary, just point the camera — the right hive card opens, no searching through the list.
Record keeping offline and across several phones
The journal is stored on the phone and works fully without a connection — there often isn't one at the apiary. If you sign in to an account, entries sync between devices: for example, with a helper's phone or a new phone.
Queen rearing and scales
For queen rearing, the app has a timer with check tasks for every key day — try the queen rearing calculator right on the website. And if you put a scale under a hive, its card will show the hive's weight and temperature.
